Hello Valerie and all!
I like the flashcards idea and the ABC vocabulary ideas that
came out of the recent exchanges here (or was that on TERPS-L?
SIGNLL? They all run together in my inbox). There is a big push
to help out one of the clients here with literacy and I think
it may be the motivation for me to get to work at introducing
signwriting and english vocabulary as bridges from signs to print.
Will see how that works out.
There is a second client here who writes English notes extensively
but the writing is highly disorganized. The treatment team is
in frequent discussion over whether the content of the writing
is disorganized as a result of active schizophrenia or of English
incompetency and SignWriting may be the key to resolving that
discussion. I know that Alice Thacker weighed in on the use of
SW writing transcribing deaf schizophrenic word salad, I am curious
if anyone has looked into deaf schizophrenics providing clues
to mental language processes through SW themselves.
Comments?
